There was excitement in the air at the Humboldt Sports Complex on Friday night as it was Senior Night and the final regular-season football game.
The visiting Jayhawk-Linn Jayhawks came to town and put up quite a fight, but Humboldt would win the game 30-28.
Both teams put up two touchdowns in the first 6 minutes of the game but would be silent in the second quarter.
The third quarter would see Humboldt put up one touchdown and the Jayhawks put up two. It was the fourth quarter that was the deciding factor with a 46-yard touchdown catch by Kolton Hanson (the player of the game), with the two-point conversion caught by Broc Ivy to seal the win.
The play of the game came with 53 seconds to go and Humboldt had the ball on their own 18-yard line, with a fourth down fake punt run by Weston Johnson to get the 3 yards they needed to seal the win.
The Cubs will host Central Heights in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday.
