CANEY, Kan. — The Humboldt cross country team turned in several medal-winning performances Tuesday at Caney Valley, highlighted by a second-place team finish from the high school girls. The meet was moved to a 10 a.m. start because of excessive heat in the forecast.
Aspen Wimsett led the Humboldt high school girls, finishing fifth out of 28 runners on the 1.5-mile course in 11 minutes, 7 seconds. Jo Ellison also earned a medal with a 15th-place finish in 12:30, while Willow LaCrone placed 20th in 14:03 and also medaled. Raegan Marple finished 23rd in 15:09, Alexa Ellis was 22nd in 15:03 and Kinley Hart placed 24th in 16:02.
On the boys side, Jack Works paced Humboldt with an eighth-place medal in 9:29. Carter Collins also medaled, placing 20th in 10:21, followed by Deegan Megenity in 25th at 10:43 and Bentley Kolb in 43rd at 15:35.
Humboldt also had strong performances in the junior high races. Sutton Wimsett finished runner-up in the girls one-mile race with a time of 7:07, while Cooper Watts earned a medal with a seventh-place finish in the boys race at 6:30. Tripp Carlson rounded out the Cubs’ results with a 23rd-place finish in 7:41.
