It is with profound sadness, that I announce the death of my dad, Billy J. Alumbaugh. He passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022, surrounded by his family in Larned, KS.
James R. “Jim” Schinstock, retired instructor at Hutchinson Community College and guest columnist for The Hutchinson News, died September 28, 2022.
Samuel F. Crissman, Jr., age 83, passed away on Sept. 26, 2022 at St. John, KS. He was born on July 13, 1939 on a farm in rural Stafford County, KS., the son of Samuel F. and Melba L. (Harman) Crissman, Jr.
She was born August 15, 1933, in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Louis P. and Olga M. Larsen Kebschull. Aletha has resided in Little River since 2006, formerly of Maize, Kansas. She graduated from Eldora High School, Eldora, Iowa, and later received her associates degree in art from Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, Iowa, in May of 1953.
Virgie Anne Koehn, 80, of Moundridge, formerly of Halstead, Kansas and West Point Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Virgie and her husband Merle have lived at the Moundridge Manor since July of this year. She
was born January 13, 1942 in Halstead, KS, the daughter of Fred J. and Anna (Ratzlaff)
She was born July 9, 1925 in Galva, the daughter of Daniel and Beulah (Waln) Russell. On June 9, 1948 she married Billy B. Minear in Canton. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2011.
She was a member of the McPherson First United Methodist Church and the Canton American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a library assistant at the McPherson Public Library, retiring just one month prior to her passing.
Eugene “Gene” Buchanan, 82, died peacefully September 26, 2022, at Hospice House. He was born February 20, 1940, in Somerset, KY.
Sheryl was born on August 24, 1947, in West Point, NE, the daughter of Robert Edward and Annie Mae (Roberts) Fenske. She graduated from West Point High School. In 1968, Sheryl was united in marriage to William “Bill” Tietz. He died in February 1969. She married Joe Hoffman in November 1970.
Gene owned and operated Ely Standard Service, Inman. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, where he had served on the board. During his life, he had been a member of the Inman City Council, Inman Fire Department Board, Pleasant View Home Board, a member of the VFW and American Legion, and of the Elks Club.
LaVern was born on January 25, 1945, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Arnold C. and Hilda A. (Stucky) Penner. He graduated from Central Christian High School in Hutchinson, KS. On April 2, 1965, LaVern was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Pauline Whitaker in Buhler, KS. This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Raymond.
