Democrat Chris Mann has won the race for Kansas Attorney General – defeating Republican incumbent Kris Kobach by about one percentage point. The Associated Press called the race after a close contest, marking a notable shift in Kansas politics.
Mann, a former police officer and Wyandotte County prosecutor, focused his campaign on supporting local law enforcement, protecting consumers, and keeping partisan politics out of the attorney general’s office.
Kobach, who has served as attorney general since January 2023, built a national profile with strict positions on immigration and election security. He previously won the office in 2022 after a narrow race against Mann.
Mann’s victory ends more than a decade of Republican control of the attorney general’s office. He will be the first Democrat in the position since 2011.
