HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Hutchinson Fire responded to the 300 Block of west Avenue A for a reported structure fire with possible people trapped. HPD units arrived on scene prior to HFD and advised this was a large, detached garage fire threatening homes, but no occupants were trapped. HFD units arrived and began defensive fire operations to knock down the large fire and protect exposures to the west of the involved structure, while coordinating a search of the exposure for possible occupants. Due to a large amount of storage and failed building conditions fire control took approximately 25 minutes. Hose placement and defensive operations proved vital in ensuring minimal damage to the home west of the fully involved garage ensuring the residents could return home. During the incident RCEMS evaluated two (2) individuals who were in proximity to the incident for non-life-threatening issues and refused transport. The fire is currently under investigation by the Hutchinson Fire Marshall, and no cause has yet to be determined.
