McPherson, Kan. – Over the weekend, the Central Christian College Women’s Volleyball team opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a pair of home games against Wayland Baptist and Oklahoma Panhandle State.
On Friday night, the Tigers faced off against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers. Wayland Baptist took control early in the first set building a strong 14-6 advantage and did not look back. The Tigers struggled to gain momentum in the set, dropping it 25-9.
Service errors and attack errors plagued the Tigers throughout the second set as the Pioneers also took set 2 by a score of 25-6. Looking to regroup for the third set, the Tigers hung with Wayland as things were knotted up at 11-11 before the Pioneers pulled away. Wayland Baptist outscored the Tigers 14-5 to win the third set 25-16 and take the match in straight sets.
Despite dropping the match in straight sets, the Tigers managed to notch 16 kills in 88 swings as well as hitting positive in the third set.
Saturday, the Tigers welcomed Oklahoma Panhandle State to Jerry E. Alexander Arena, looking to turn things around from the previous night.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 11-8 lead in the first set, tallying two service aces and taking advantage of Aggie errors. The Aggies would respond by outscoring the Tigers 14-2 to take a 22-13 advantage in the set. The Aggies would go on to win the first set, 25-18.
Central responded well in set two, taking it 25-23 to knot the match up at 1-1. Though they evened the match at 1-1, it was not without some adversity. The Tigers possessed a 24-17 advantage and survived a scare after the Aggies rattled off six straight points. The Tigers tallied 10 kills to just six errors in the set, for a positive hitting percentage of .093.
The Tigers would go on to drop the next two sets to the Aggies by scores of 25-8 and 25-7 to lose the match 3-1.
The Tigers (0-5, 0-2 SAC), are back in action on Tuesday as #5 McPherson College comes to Jerry E. Alexander Arena for the first installment of the 2026-27 Collegiate Cup presented by People’s Bank and Trust. The match will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network and the SAC Sports Network. It will also be available to listen to on Ad Astra Radio.
