IOLA, Kan. – The Iola Mustangs delivered a dominant performance on Homecoming night, shutting out Osawatomie 59-0 Friday night in a Pioneer League matchup.
Reed Clift led the way offensively, completing 9 of 14 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns while adding 131 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Austin Crooks hauled in three receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown, as Clift accounted for four total touchdowns. Sophomore Braylon Keithley also saw time at quarterback in the second half, completing one of three passes for eight yards and a touchdown.
The Mustangs also made their presence felt on defense. Defensive lineman Alston Nelson returned an interception for a touchdown, while freshman Austin Campbell came up with two interceptions late in the game. With plenty of players getting an opportunity to see the field in the shutout victory, Iola now turns its attention to a Week 8 district matchup against Girard at home. The two teams are tied for third in the district, setting up an important game for the Mustangs.
