The Kansas high school football season kicks off Friday with several area matchups carrying early league implications, including Iola at Wellsville and Humboldt at Bluestem. In the Three Rivers League, Marmaton Valley travels to Oswego in a highly anticipated clash between the reigning champion Wildcats and two-time defending runner-up Indians, while Yates Center hosts Crest. Southern Coffey County also opens its season at Marais Des Cygnes Valley.
