The men’s and women’s cross country teams took on the Missouri Southern Stampede, one of the Nations biggest meets for the week with around 300 athletes and about 40 schools represented per race.The men’s team took advantage of the nearly perfect conditions and great competition to earn themselves a trip to the National Championships as a team running a 28:12 team average over the 8k course. The squad was lead by Sophomore Denner Dos Santos and Freshman Travis Round who both finished side by side in 26:52, not far behind was Timothy Kemboi in 27:10. Victor Bats and Chason Sikes Rounded out the scoring 5 for the men in 29:48 and 30:20 respectively.
The women’s team did not field a full squad this week with some injuries sidelining a few. However, not to be out done by the men, Sophomore Bethany Barger made her mark running her 3rd fastest time all time in cross country and a top 10 mark in school history in route to earning herself a trip to the National Championships.
The National Championships will be hosted November 14th at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
