Lyons/Sterling Baseball Swept by Southeast of Saline

Game 1: Southeast of Saline 5 Lyons/Sterling 2

Southeast of Saline scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning and then added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th to grab a 5-0 lead. Lyons was able to plate 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th but came up short as the Trojans won 5-2. SES had 5 runs on 6 hits and committed 2 errors.

Tiernan Ptacek picked up the win as he held Lyons/Sterling to 3 hits and struck out 5 batters as he pitched a complete game. Kayson Bertrand led the way at the plate for the Trojans as he went 2 for 2 and reached on his other 2 plate appearances with a walk and was hit by a pitch.

For Lyons/Sterling, Derek Krone reached base all on each plate appearances as he was hit by pitch all 3 times. Blake Smith took the loss going 6 2/3 innings and throwing 109 pitches.

Game 2: Southeast of Saline 5 Lyons/Sterling 2

Southeast of Saline earned the sweep in the second game as they scored 5 runs on 6 hits and took advantage of 3 Lyons/Sterling errors to once again win 5-2. Lyons/Sterling outhit the Trojans as they had 9 hits, but could not get the timely hit to drive in runs early on in game 2.

In pitching a complete game, Kayson Bertrand struck out 6 batters while walking only 1 and stranded 9 Lions runners on the base paths. Noah Rupert went 2 for 4 for SES. Blake Smith went 3 for 4 and 2 RBI’s to lead Lyons/Sterling in hitting.

Easton Diasio took the loss going 5 innings as he gave up all 5 runs while recording 2 strikeouts. Anthony Ventura pitched 2 scoreless innings for Lyons as he faced only 6 batters. Lyons/Sterling is now 14-10 on the season while Southeast of Saline is 19-3.

Lyons will travel to Hoisington on Tuesday, May 12th for the final regular season game. Southeast of Saline has completed their regular season and wait the regional pairings next week.
