Sports in Kansas named its 2026 All-Class awards for baseball and softball on Thursday.
Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School’s Drew Dechant is the Class 2-1A Pitcher of the Year. He has signed to play baseball next year at Hutchinson Community College.
Dechant was a three-sport star at Trinity. He also played football and basketball. Dechant will compete for the West squad in the Kansas East-West Shrine Bowl Football Game Saturday in Emporia.
Dechant also is pitching for the defending National Baseball Congress champion Hutchinson Monarchs this summer.
Hays-Thomas More Prep-Marian junior Ty Schmeidler, who will play baseball at the University of Kentucky after he graduates from TMP, was named to the Sports in Kansas Top 9 Baseball Team and is the Class 2-1A Player of the Year.
Great Bend’s Michael Stettinger and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Rick Sabath were named 5A Baseball Coaches of the Year.
Great Bend’s Shawn Behr and Pittsburg’s Chance Gomez were named 5A Softball Coaches of the Year by Sports in Kansas.
Southeast of Saline’s Tyler Smith and Silver Lake’s Nick Hamilton were named 3A Softball Coaches of the Year.
