ANDALE, Kan. — Two big innings helped both the Buhler and Andale/Garden Plain baseball teams to a split in a doubleheader on Monday at the Andale High School Sports Complex.
Buhler rallied with six runs in the first game in the seventh inning for an 8-4 victory. Andale/Garden Plain used a 5-run sixth inning in the nightcap for a 13-7 victory.
Game 1: Buhler 8, Andale/Garden Plain 4
Jared Miller gave Buhler a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single. Buhler made it 2-0 in the fourth with an Rn single by Evan Thetford. Andale/Garden Plain took its first lead of the game with four in the fourth, an RBI groundout by Greyson Winter, an RBI single by Easton Rieger, and a 2-run triple from Cruz Kaiser. With two outs in the seventh, the Crusaders rallied, cutting the deficit to 4-3 on an RBI triple by Miller and taking the lead on a bases-clearing double by Asher McConnaughy, and added two insurance runs on an RBI single by Miller and an RBI double by Asher Zachary.
Jackson Short took the loss for Andale/Garden Plain on the mound, going six innings, allowing three run on five hits and striking out three. Easton Linnens went 2-for-3 at the plate. Luke Holmberg got the win in relief for Buhler, going 2 ⅓ innings of shutout baseball and two strikeouts. Miller went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
Game 2: Andale/Garden Plain 13, Buhler 7
Buhler took a 1-0 lead in the first with a bases-loaded walk by Asher Zachary. Andale/Garden Plain scored two in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple by Kaiser and an RBI single by Bugner. The Crusaders tied the game at two in the fourth with an RBI single by Graycen Brinar and took the lead with Miller scoring on a passed ball. Stanley gave Andale/Garden Plain the lead back with a 2-run double, which was followed by two runs scoring on a groundout by Linnens. In the fifth, Stanley was hit by a pitch that forced in a run and Kaiser scored on an error, making it 8-3. In the sixth, Buhler scored four to pull back within one on two errors and a 2-run single by Miller. Kaiser extended the lead to 10-7 with a 2-run double. Two more runs came across on consecutive hit by pitches and the final run came across when Flax grounded into a fielder’s choice.
Flax got the win for Andale/Garden Plain, going five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two strikeouts. Kaiser went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Kyle Neill took the loss for Buhler, going three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. Brinar led Buhler at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Andale/Garden Plain (12-10) travels to El Dorado for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday at McDonald Stadium.
