LAWRENCE, Kan. — For six innings, the Andale/Garden Plain softball team could not record a hit against Wamego pitcher Landri Adams on Wednesday in a Class 4A State Semifinal at Arrocha Ballpark.
Down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Andale/Garden Plain found a way to stay alive, but couldn’t complete the rally in a 3-2 loss to the Lady Raiders. The loss snapped Andale/Garden Plain’s nine-game winning streak over the course of May.
Brooklyn Sele delivered with a lead-off double, breaking up Adams’ no-hit bid. Coti Hiner followed with a single. Rose Molitor cut the deficit to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly. After a fielder’s choice groundout by Clare Krier, Emme Linnens scored on a passed ball, bringing the tying run to third base and the game-winning run to the plate. However, Adams ended the threat, striking out Josie Harp to end the game. Adams finished the game, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out 11.
Wamego jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with an RBI single by Rylee Stanley and an RBI groundout from Tulsa Schultz. The Lady Raiders delivered three hits in their first three batters, with Andale/Garden Plain changing pitchers from Ryin Gibbens to Krier. Krier limited the Wamego offense to one run on four hits and four strikeouts in a no-decision.
Andale/Garden Plain got its first baserunner in the second on a walk by Krier and a second baserunner in the fourth on a walk by Hiner. Hiner led Andale/Garden Plain, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Andale/Garden Plain (20-6) will play Rock Creek for third place at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday at Arrocha Ballpark. Rock Creek fell to Ft. Scott in its semifinal, 3-1.
