WICHITA, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain baseball team snapped its five-game losing streak in its doubleheader at Wichita Collegiate on Thursday.
Andale/Garden Plain won the first game 9-8. Collegiate salvaged a split, winning game two, 17-12, scoring 12 unanswered runs after Andale/Garden Plain held a 12-5 lead through 4 ½ innings.
In game one, Collegiate struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning before Andale/Garden Plain responded with three in the second. Weston Stanhope tied the game at 2 with a 2-run single, with Jared Flax following with an RBI groundout. Cruz Kaiser had a 2-run single in the third to extend the lead to 5-2. Collegiate responded with three runs to take a 6-5 advantage through three. Noah Stanley tied the game at six in the fourth with an RBI single. Stanley broke the tie in the sixth with a 3-run home run. Collegiate got a pair of runs in the sixth, but couldn’t tie the game in the seventh. Jamey Joplin got the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits, and striking out one. Stanley earned his second save of the year, pitching a shutout seventh while also going 2-for-4 with four RBIs at the plate.
In game two, Collegiate took a 3-0 lead through one before Andale/Garden Plain responded with three in the second with a 3-run home run by Easton Rieger. Collegiate regained the lead with a run in the third. Andale/Garden Plain scored seven runs in the fourth, highlighted by a 2-run home run and an RBI single by Greyson Winter and a pair of 2-run singles from Stanley and Easton Linnens. Collegiate made it 10-5 through four before Andale/Garden Plain scored a pair in the fifth on a 2-run single by Flax. After that, Collegiate scored eight in the fifth to take a 13-12 lead and added four in the sixth. Winter went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Austin Bugner took the loss in the relief, going 1 ⅓ innings, allowing six runs on two hits.
Andale/Garden Plain (7-7) hosts Clearwater at 4 p.m. Thursday in Andale.
