Yates Center will celebrate its agricultural heritage with HayFest Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9–10, featuring activities on the historic town square and at other community locations. Hosted by RevitalizeYC, the festival honors Woodson County’s fall traditions and Yates Center’s title as the “Prairie Hay Capital of the World.” Festival admission and most children’s activities are free, although some events carry a fee.
Friday’s activities begin with a soup supper at 6 p.m. in the Yates Center High School cafeteria, with freewill donations accepted. Bingo follows at 7 p.m., with game packets available for a $10 donation.
Saturday opens with the Rural Firefighters Breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. at the rural fire barn. The Friends for Life breast cancer benefit auction begins at 9 a.m., followed by the celebration walk at 10 a.m.
Craft vendors, food trucks, inflatables and free children’s games and activities open at 11 a.m., followed by DJ music from Undertaker Tunes at 11:15 a.m. Cornhole registration begins at 1 p.m., with play starting at 2 p.m., while Holiday Barn Quilts is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Evening events include Bulls, Broncos and Barrels at 7 p.m. at the Saddle Club Arena and “The Final Bell” haunted house at 8 p.m., presented by the Yates Center High School junior class.
