Missing Yates Center Teen Found Alive

A now 16-year-old Yates Center girl who disappeared March 1st has been found.

Yates Center Assistant Chief of Police Vinson Baker said they were notified Friday morning by Pittsburg, KS Police that they believed they had found Lia Seely alive. Baker then responded to Pittsburg and confirmed it was Lia.

Because of an ongoing criminal investigation, no further details are able to be released at this time.

In a statement Friday evening, Baker expressed his thanks to the public for the tips and other information provided during the 41 days Lia was missing. He expressed particular thanks to the Parsons and Pittsburg Police Departments, Woodson County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. He particularly gave a special thank you to the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office for the assistance it provided.

Lia disappeared the night of March 1st from the home of her legal guardian, leaving in a vehicle with other persons, who took her to Parsons, where she had last been seen. It was earlier reported charges are being pursued against two people who were in the vehicle with Lia.
