McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Boys Tennis team began its season on Tuesday, March 31, in their home invitational.

FULL RESULTS

McPherson had 16 players participate: 14 in two different teams (Red & White), and two extras individually. The Red team placed 2nd overall, finishing just one point behind Winfield. The White team placed 5th.

Last year’s Regional Champion, Cooper Bohme, led Team Red’s individual efforts, winning the Singles tournament. Rylan Unruh placed 3rd. Mason Eisembarth & Jonas Emery won the Doubles tournament, while Hayden Siemens & Aaron Winter placed 9th.

The White team was led by Kepple Butcher & Jack Boese, placing 4th in the Doubles tournament. The duo of Holtyn Hamblin & Jacob Achillies finished 14th. Parker Riemann led the White team in the Singles tournament, placing 9th, while Bradon Holm placed 14th. The two extras were Collin Tully and Logan Allen, who placed 15th and 16th in Singles, respectively.

Head Coach Tyler Brown praised the effort of the young team. “For our first tournament of the season, I thought our team performed extremely well,” Brown said. “What makes this even more impressive is that only one of [our 16] players was a senior—we are a very young team, and early nerves showed in several first-round matches. However, once we settled in, our confidence grew with each round. Coach Sanchez and I couldn’t be more proud of how the team responded. To finish just one point behind the defending state champions is a great way to start the season, and it shows the potential this group has moving forward.”

The Varsity team will head to Conway Springs on Thursday, April 2, for a Match with Conway Springs, Chaparral, and Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic.
