Bullpup Softball Sweeps Winfield, Splits Manhattan Tri

The McPherson High School Varsity Softball team played four games in the span of two days, winning both games in their home opener on Monday, March 30 over Winfield before traveling to the Little Apple, winning one of two games on Tuesday, March 31.


The Bullpups won game one over Winfield 19-4 in three innings. McPherson had 14 hits, led by Ashlyn Schroeder, who went 3-4. Kynnedi Huggard went 2-4 with 4 RBI. Carmin Pavlovich was the starting pitcher, allowing just one earned run and striking out 4. Offensively, she went 1-3 with a home run.

McPherson won game two vs. Winfield 16-2 in five innings. The Bullpups used the same momentum offensively from the first matchup, racking up 20 hits. Pavlovich went 3-4 with three doubles. Rylie Whitfield hit 4-4 with a home run. Schroeder pitched all five innings, hitting a home run offensively.


McPherson traveled to Cico Park in Manhattan on Tuesday for a triangular. The Bullpups fell to Great Bend in their first game, 11-0, in five innings. McPherson had only four hits and three walks, leaving six runners on base. Pavlovich was the starting pitcher, striking out two batters but giving up 13 base hits.

The Bullpups had a break before their second game against Manhattan, winning 5-1 over the Lady Indians. Their offense found more life against Manhattan, earning seven hits, scoring a run in innings 3-7. Schroeder earned the win in the circle, throwing all seven innings, allowing 7 hits and an unearned run.

McPherson moves to 5-3 on the season. They will host Andale/Garden Plain on Monday, April 6.
