WICHITA, Kan. – Facing a great field of competition, the McPherson volleyball team traveled to the Wichita Southeast Tournament on Saturday. The Bullups finished the day 4-2, taking third place.
McPherson opened with a 25-5, 25-14 straight set win over The Independent School out of Wichita. They followed that with a 25-7, 25-10 win over the host Wichita Southeast. Their first loss of the day came to a talented Circle team, falling in three sets 25-20, 18-25, 25-16. The Bullpups bounced back with a 25-12, 25-14 straight set win over Wichita South before falling to Goddard in three sets, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20.
At the end of the day, a third place match was set up with Wichita Southeast. The Bullpups beat the Buffaloes in straight sets for a second time, taking the 3rd Place match 25-16, 25-7.
Setter Rylie Whitfield patrolled the offense with 120 assists over the six matches, bringing her season total over 300. Harper Rierson put up a team-high 55 kills for the day, followed by Piper Solofra with 29 and Carmin Pavlovich with 22. Pavlovich led the team with 35 digs followed by her younger sister Elles with 34. Whitfield has 26 digs and led the team with 12 service aces for the day.
McPherson has played to an 11-6 record with a solid schedule so far. They will be back on the court again on Tuesday night as they will face Circle and Buhler in AVCTL Division III play in Buhler.
