WELLINGTON, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain baseball team extended its winning streak to five with a sweep over Wellington on Thursday.
Andale/Garden Plain took the opener, 13-0, in five innings and had to hold off the Crusaders in the finale, 6-5.
In game one, Andale/Garden Plain scored 12 of its 13 runs in the second inning highlighted by a pair of 3-run home runs by Easton Reiger and Cruz Kaiser. Patrick Keehn threw a complete game one-hitter and had nine strikeouts. Noah Stanley went 3-for-4 at the plate.
In game two, Andale/Garden Plain held a 5-0 lead through four innings before Wellington got on the board with a run in the fifth. Andale/Garden Plain got the run back in the sixth, however Wellington scored three in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Crusaders scored one in the seventh and had the game tying runner on third base, but Stanley closed the door on the mound earning the save. Jared Flax went five on the mound earning the win allowing one run on two hits and three strikeouts. Stanley, Easton Linnens and Austin Bugner each had two hits
Andale/Garden Plain (5-1) hosts Rose Hill at 4 pm Monday in Andale.
