McPHERSON, Kan. — A McPherson man changed his plea Thursday in connection with a 2023 hit and run incident northeast of McPherson.

Brice Kasting changed his plea from not guilty Thursday in McPherson County District Court under an agreement where he pleaded to second degree murder in exchange for dismissal of other charges including driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to stop at an accident

Kasten was driving a pickup on 17th Avenue near Mohawk Road Sept. 30, 2023, when he struck a bicycle ridden by Pedro Amezcua Gonzalez, after which he fled the area. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kasten was arrested the following day after tips led to the location of the pickup involved. A jury trial for Kasten had been scheduled to start Feb. 23.

He is in custody pending sentencing, which District Judge John Klenda set for May 1, 2026.
