Affidavits connected to two criminal cases against Daniel Hawkinson have been released.
Hawkinson is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the January 31st shooting death of Joshua Soden southwest of Inman, and aggravated battery in connection with an incident December 20th at an underage drinking party near where the shooting took place and where the initial confrontation occurred in the shooting..
The affidavit in the manslaughter case said Hawkinson had left that party with two others, about which time Soden and two others went back to the party to confront Hawkinson because Soden believed Hawkinson struck a female friend of his.
The two trucks met at 4th and Arapaho Road, where Soden according to the affidavit approached the driver’s side door of Hawkinson’s truck and struck him multiple times with a closed fist, after which Hawkinson allegedly drew and fired three rounds from a pistol, Hawkinson then allegedly drove over Soden’s legs as he left the scene.
An autopsy identified gunshot wounds that went through his heart, right lung, and the right upper forearm, but no significant signs of injury to his hands.
In the aggravated battery case, the affidavit stated officers were called on the report of a 17 year old male being “jumped” and having seizures. The alleged victim here sustained orbital socket bleeding, a fractured rib, and a finger injury with bone fragments present.
Hawkinson and two other men were identified by the victim as being involved. Online McPherson County District Court records indicated no charges had been filed against either of the other two identified persons. The host of the drinking party, identified as in the affidavits as Grant Wiens, has been charged with unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol in two separate cases. Pre-trial hearings in both cases have been set for August 21st.
Hawkinson, who remains free on bond in both cases, is scheduled for preliminary hearing August 28th in the battery case and October 13th in the manslaughter case.
