HILLSBORO, Kan. — The Hesston College women’s soccer team battled Tabor College to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday, Sept. 2, moving the Larks to 1-1-2 on the season.
Hesston created an early opportunity when Brooklyn Bailey took a shot in the third minute before Yesenia Sanchez put an attempt on goal in the ninth minute, forcing a save from Tabor goalkeeper Maria Saavedra Mejia.
Tabor generated two shots on goal in the opening half, but Hesston goalkeeper Ashleigh Williams stopped both attempts to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
The Bluejays increased the pressure in the second half, but Williams continued to turn away scoring opportunities. She made saves in the 48th, 52nd and 54th minutes before adding two more stops in the 64th and 65th minutes.
Hesston nearly broke the scoreless tie late in the match when Brooke Tafoya put a shot on target in the 82nd minute, but Tabor defender Piper Foegen made a defensive save.
Tabor continued to push in the closing minutes, but Williams made back-to-back saves against Cassidy Boyer in the 87th minute, and the Hesston defense added a defensive save in the final minutes to preserve the shutout.
Tabor finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Sanchez led the Larks with two shots, both on goal, while Williams recorded 10 saves in the shutout.
The Larks move to 1-1-2 on the season.
The Larks will return home Friday, Sept. 4 to face Faith Baptist Bible College.
