McPherson, Kansas – The McPherson Bulldogs Men’s Soccer team hosted Sterling College at Brubaker Family Stadium on Wednesday night. After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs put up seven goals in the second half for a big 7-0 win. McPherson is now 16-3-0 all-time against Sterling.

How it Happened
The Bulldogs came out strong offensively, recording their first shot in the first minute of the match. Despite controlling possession for most of the first half and firing off 18 shots, McPherson could not find the back of the net.
After halftime, the Bulldogs finally scored their first goal, sparking a run of six more goals. The opening goal was scored by Nathan Van Wyck in the 52nd minute with an assist from Eric Mendoza off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Just over a minute later, Van Wyck scored once again on a penalty kick to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. In the 59th minute, Tijs Stumphius found the back of the net after a pass from Sijmen Van Der Zee to extend McPherson’s lead. Van Der Zee scored a goal of his own just four minutes later. After several shots on goal in the first half, Tyler Beckford finally found the back of the net, with back-to-back goals in the 80th and 82nd minutes. George Jankowski finished things off for the Bulldogs with a goal just seconds before the match ended, with an assist coming from Santiago Rendon.
The McPherson defense held the Warriors to only three shots, with goalkeeper Alvaro Marchal saving all three and picking up another shutout. The Bulldogs ended the match with 32 shots with 16 on frame.
