Warm Spring for Central Kansas, precipitation mixed

The spring of 2026 was the second warmest on record for central Kansas, with precipitation a mixed bag.

The National Weather Service says McPherson’s rainfall for the March-May period, which is considered meteorological spring, came to .4.66 inches, just over six inches below average. Much of that came during one storm in the last week of the month, with brought they May total ot 3.33 inches which was still just over two inches below normal for the month. McPherson Weather records date from 1893.

It was the opposite for Salina, where the airport received 8.32 inches for the spring season, just under a half inch below normal thanks to a wet May where the 6.43 inches of rain was just over an inch and a third above normal.

Temperature wise Salina, which is one of the four climate stations of record in the Wichita NWS area, averaged 60.1 degrees for this spring, the second warmest on record and 5.1 degrees above normal.
