It takes about 50 volunteers and over 500 young participants – to create a million smiles at the Kansas State Fair Pedal Pull Championships held on Sunday.
Missy Siruta, President of the Kansas Pedal Pullers Association tells Ad Astra News that after all the efforts are made behind the scenes, seeing everyone’s smile is the real payoff. “All the paperwork and stuff I get ready at the first of the year, and once we start peddling, we see those faces and smiles and everything, and it’s all worth it.” she said.
Five hundred twenty-seven children qualified this summer at their local pedal pulls to be a part of the massive event held at the Heartland Credit Union Pavilion on Sunday September, 13th. According to Siruta, the top four qualifiers for boys and girls will go on to Nationals, to be held Saturday September, 26th at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Pedal Pullers are ages 4 year-olds up to 12 year-olds. Top four finishers in each category for boys and girls earned a trophy and T-shirt.
