Behind a first-half natural hat trick from Koki Kawai, the No. 4 Barton Community College men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to six straight Thursday evening with a 7-1 road victory over Bethel College JV.

Kawai accounted for each of the Cougars’ first three goals before Luca Madiai added another late in the opening half, sending Barton into the break with a 4-0 advantage. The Cougars tacked on three more following intermission, including first collegiate goals for Jordy Kaba and Vadim Sladkov, before Bethel spoiled the shutout bid late in the contest.

The victory improves Barton to 12-1-0 on the season. The Cougars now turn their attention back to conference play Saturday, traveling to No. 14 Coffeyville Community College for a 2:00 p.m. showdown.

Kawai opened the scoring with approximately 29 minutes remaining in the first half off a feed from Joaquim Diniz before adding the Cougars’ next two tallies to complete the natural hat trick and push his season total to four. Shoma Komata assisted on Kawai’s second goal before Madiai closed out the opening-half scoring with his second of the season off a Martins assist.

Barton continued adding to its advantage following halftime as Kaba converted a penalty kick for his first collegiate goal before striking again two minutes later off a Leuenroth assist. Sladkov accounted for the Cougars’ final tally with his first collegiate goal before Bethel broke up the shutout bid in the 83rd minute.
