The Ellinwood High School Eagles volleyball team captured their 10th consecutive Central Prairie League championship Saturday at Hoisington by posting a 6-0 tournament record.
The CPL tournament took place at the Hoisington Activity Center and the Hoisington Middle School gymnasium. St. John placed second in the CPL tournament.
The Eagles, which will host Victoria at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, improved to 35-0 overall (9-0 in regular-season CPL matches) and now have an 82-match winning streak. The Eagles have gone 707 days without a loss and have only dropped four sets during that period of time.
“What an incredible day of volleyball,” said Ellinwood volleyball coach Greg Maxwell who now has a career record of 314-49 (139-5 against CPL teams). “And what a special milestone for this team and everyone who has contributed to this championship tradition.
“We can be extremely proud of all the girls who have contributed to these championships throughout the years. Since I took over, our goal has always been to dominate league play as we prepare for postseason competition at the state level. We are grateful for the success we’ve had against some excellent CPL teams.
“This year is especially special because it’s our 10th championship in a row, and we were able to keep our winning streak going. Our girls played very well all day, and we’re excited for postseason play.”
