PARSONS, Kan. — A confrontation at Marvel Park campground on Sept. 23 led to the arrest of Anna Stemple on suspicion of aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.
Parsons police responded at approximately 9:11 a.m. to a report of a fight in progress, possibly involving a weapon. A man told officers that Stemple, a neighboring camper, entered his campsite during a confrontation while carrying a large flashlight.
According to police, Stemple allegedly attempted to strike the man with the flashlight. He raised his arm to protect himself and was struck in the forearm, causing an injury. Police said Stemple also allegedly pushed a second person, causing minor injuries, and damaged the man’s vehicle with the flashlight, leaving damage to the paint and a taillight.
Officers collected statements, photographed the reported injuries and property damage, and recovered a flashlight believed to have been involved. Stemple initially remained inside a nearby camper but exited after officers spoke with her and was taken into custody without further incident.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated the injured man at the scene after he reported increasing pain and difficulty moving his arm. He was released following the evaluation. Stemple was transported to the Labette County Jail and booked on suspicion of aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.
Police Chief Robert Spinks credited officers with using de-escalation tactics and encouraged residents to leave confrontations and contact law enforcement before disputes become violent.
The investigation remains ongoing.
