Five applicants are seeking a district judge position in Kansas’ 6th Judicial District, which includes Bourbon, Linn and Miami counties. The vacancy will be created when District Judge Mark Ward retires Friday, Oct. 9.

The applicants are Joshua Albin of Andover, an attorney and Burden city attorney; James Crux of Pittsburg, Bourbon County attorney; Madeline Jensen of Spring Hill, Bourbon County assistant county attorney; Jacklyn Paletta of Paola, Louisburg municipal judge and Linn County counselor; and Terra Tecchio of Fort Scott, an attorney with Tecchio Consulting and Baseley Law Office.

The district’s nominating commission was scheduled to review applications by videoconference Wednesday, Oct. 7. Public interviews are scheduled for Oct. 27 in Linn County.

Following interviews, the commission will submit three to five nominees to the governor, who has 60 days to make an appointment. After serving one year, the appointed judge must stand for retention in the next general election and, if retained, will serve a four-year term.
