Growing Through Uncertainty Soybean Diseases and Global Fertilizer Prices

Soybean producers and others involved in soybean production are invited to attend the Growing Through Uncertainty meeting where we will discuss Soybean Diseases and Global Fertilizer Prices on November 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Harveyville Community Building in Harveyville, Kansas. The meeting is sponsored by Wabaunsee County Extension, Frontier District Extension, and Harveyville Seed Company.

The meeting will address two important issues facing soybean producers: Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and the factors influencing Global Fertilizer Prices and Availability. SDS has recently been identified in soybeans growing in both creek bottomland and upland sites in the area, making disease identification and management information particularly important for producers in the area.

Dr. Rodrigo Onofre, Kansas State University Extension Row Crop Pathologist, and Dr. Eric Adee, Kansas State University Agronomist in charge of the River Valley Experiment Station, will share the latest research on SDS, including information about the disease, symptoms to watch for, and management strategies that can help reduce yield losses. Depending on conditions and severity, SDS-related yield losses can range from trace levels to 50–80%. Presenters will discuss how variety selection and seed treatments can be used as tools to help reduce the impact of the disease.

The meeting will also feature Ron Teleky of WinField United, who will discuss Factors Affecting Global Fertilizer Prices and Availability. Understanding the global factors influencing fertilizer markets can help producers make more informed decisions about fertilizer purchasing and availability for upcoming production seasons.

The meeting is intended for soybean producers, seed sales representatives, agronomists, and others involved in soybean production. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about current research and practical management strategies that can be applied to soybean production operations.

Lunch will be served at the meeting, so registration is required. To register, call the Wabaunsee County Extension Office at 785-765-3821 or use the QR code on the meeting flyer. Producers are encouraged to register in advance so adequate meals and meeting materials can be prepared.
