LINDSBORG, KAN. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Track & Field teams have added Daylon Smith and Mike Lynam to their coaching staffs.

Daylon Smith joins the Swedes from Southwestern College as he was the assistant track and field coach for the Builders. Before he began his coaching career, Smith was a cross country and track and field athlete at Sterling College where he would finish his running career. While at Sterling, Smith was named Sterling College’s 2023 and 2021 KCAC Champion of Character, the 2022 Warrior of Excellence award.

“I am thrilled to be working with the cross country and track and field program at Bethany College,” said Coach Smith. “After four years in the conference, I have witnessed firsthand the passion and dedication the staff has poured into this program. I am ecstatic to join this team and apply my skills to help build something special here in Lindsborg!”

Daylon Smith earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Management with an influence on Coaching. He is continuing to pursue his Master’s degree in Leadership at Southwestern College.

Mike Lynam will be serving as a volunteer assistant coach this year. Coach Lynam is no stranger to Bethany or the KCAC. A 1981 Bethany grad, Mike was a member of the 1979 conference champion cross country team under legendary coach Jim Krob. Mike has stayed connected to the sport, serving in varying officiation capacities, especially in the KCAC for nearly 40 years.

Mike is married to his Swede-heart Lenora (also class of 1981). They have two children, Dr Matthew Lynam of Lexington, Okla. , and Erin Donkersloot of Whitestown, Ind.

Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Aaron Yoder: “We are very excited about Coach Smith and Coach Lynam joining our track and field staff at Bethany College. They are going to provide the team with a wealth of knowledge and experience in events ranging from sprints to long distance. Additionally, their experience in all other Coaching areas that include recruiting and administrative work will be highly beneficial to Swedes as we continue to grow in Track and Field and Cross Country.”
