The No. 18 Barton Community College volleyball team extended its winning streak to five straight Saturday afternoon, sweeping Seward County Community College (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) inside Fleske Fieldhouse.
Completing the regular-season home-and-away sweep, the Cougars improve to 6-2 in Jayhawk Conference play and 16-7 overall while the Saints slip to 4-5 in league play and 11-14 on the season. Barton will return to the road Wednesday, traveling to Cloud County Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
The Cougars delivered a balanced offensive performance throughout the afternoon, putting down a season-best 46 kills in a three-set match against 15 errors on 111 swings for a .279 attack. Barton also dished out 43 assists, its most in a three-set match this season while hitting .324 in the opening frame before following with .243 and .270 attacks over the final two sets.
Kiera Loe led the Cougar attack with a match-high 15 kills on 38 swings while Brylynn Wicker turned in an efficient afternoon, putting down 10 kills against just one error on 16 attempts for a .562 attack. Wicker also added three block assists to her performance.
Amanda Riepe followed with nine kills while Mariam Urazbakhtina contributed six kills on a .455 attack, committing just one error on 11 swings. Returning to the lineup for the first time since Sept. 16, Paola Batista saw action in two sets, putting down two kills while adding one of the Cougars’ three solo blocks.
Running the offense, Natalia Nowak handed out a team-high 21 assists while Mileah Neal added 16 assists and five digs. Defensively, Jaden Katsis led the Cougars with 12 digs while Hotone Tarui reached double figures with 10 digs to go along with four assists and a service ace.
