Senior Delaney Childs broke the Nickerson High School and the meet javelin record with a throw of 134 feet, 1 inch, at the James Thomas Invitational track meet Friday at Hillsboro.
Childs helped the Nickerson girls place 12th out of 15 teams at the James Thomas meet with 13 points. The Nickerson boys tied for 14th place with 18 points.
Hesston’s girls and boys teams both placed first with 107 points. The Moundridge girls placed second with 89 points and the Moundridge boys were third with 68. The Smoky Valley girls and boys teams placed fourth with 74 and 48 points.
The Inman girls and boys both placed fifth with 64.5 and 47 points. The Lyons boys placed seventh with 31 points and the girls placed 13th with 8 points. The Haven boys tied for ninth with 26 points and the Haven girls were 14th with 6 points.
