McPherson Volleyball 2nd at Chanute

CHANUTE, Kan. – The McPherson High volleyball team traveled southeast to the Chanute Tournament on Saturday.  They went 3-2 on the day, losing to just one school and taking second place.

McPherson cruised to a 25-8, 25-17 win over Jayhawk-Linn to open pool play and then they picked up a 25-15, 25-18 win over Trinity Academy.  The Bullpups finished pool play with a 26-24, 25-23 loss to Paola.

Moving on to the semis, they found a battle with Frontenac, but won in three sets, 25-14, 25-27 and 25-17.  The championship tilt was a rematch with Paola and the Panthers got the Bullpups with the same final set scores as their first meeting, but swapped to 25-23 and 26-24.

Setter Rylie Whitfield had 103 assists combined in the five matches, bringing her total past 500 for the season.  Whitfield also led the way with nine service aces.  Piper Solofra was the leader of the offensive attack with 38 kills, while Carmin Pavlovich had 31 and Harper Rierson added 22.  Solofra also registered a team best six blocks on the day.  Elles Pavlovich had another great day on the back row, topping the team with 48 digs, while Carmin had 37.

McPherson is now 18-8 overall.  They are back on the court for Senior Night on Tuesday as they will host Augusta and Collegiate.
