Hasltead Dragons Volleyball Team Captures Hillsboro Invitational Title

The Halstead High School volleyball team posted a 5-0 record (10-0 games) to capture the championship of the 32nd annual Hillsboro Invitational Saturday.

The tournament was played on two courts at Hillsboro High School and one court at Hillsboro Middle School.

Hillsboro placed second with a 4-1 record (8-4 games), followed by Minneapolis 3-2 (6-5), Chapman 2-3 (6-6), Kingman 1-4 (2-8) and Wichita Independent 0-5 (1-10).

Halstead defeated Hillsboro 25-17, 25-23, Kingman 25-10, 25-5, Chapman 25-15, 25-20, Wichita Independent 25-4, 25-12 and Minneapolis 25-11, 25-19.

Hillsboro defeated Chapman 19-25, 25-11, 25-16, Kingman 25-10, 25-17, Minneapolis 25-11, 27-25 and Wichita Independent 25-9, 24-26, 25-11.

Minneapolis defeated Chapman 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, Wichita Independent 25-6, 25-19 and Kingman 25-17, 25-20.

Chapman defeated Wichita Independent 25-16, 25-10 and Kingman 25-9, 25-17. Kingman defeated Wichita Independent 25-13, 25-16.

Halstead will host Southeast of Saline on Monday. The Halstead Dragons were assigned to Kansas Class 3A Regional 3, which begins play Oct. 19.

Other schools assigned to the regional are Chaparral, Cheney, Council Grove, Garden Plain, Haven, Hesston, Hillsboro, Kingman, Marysville, Minneapolis, Riley County, Smoky Valley, Southeast of Saline, Wichita Collegiate and Wichita Trinity Academy.
