Bullpup Sports Roundup: Girls Soccer, Girls Swimming, Boys Golf

GIRLS SOCCER

The McPherson High School Girls Soccer team had two games last week, both of which on the road against non-divisional opponents.

The team started off on the road against Rose Hill Tuesday, April 15, but fell 2-0. They followed it up with a thriller at Salina South Thursday, April 17. After a scoreless tie in regulation, the game went to overtime and saw McPherson get the victory with the Golden Goal by Grace Prescott to win the game 1-0.

The Bullpups are 5-3-0 on the season and will return home Tuesday, April 22 against Wichita Collegiate.


GIRLS SWIMMING

The MHS Girls Swimming team traveled to the Haysville Campus Meet Tuesday, April 15, placing 2nd overall.

The team went up against primarily 5A & 6A schools in the meet. Derby won the meet in blowout fashion with 436 points and the Bullpups finished with 292 in the 2nd spot. Bree Pickerell had an amazing meet, winning the 200 Freestyle (2:11.02) and placing 2nd in the 100 Backstroke (1:08.11). Ella Schrag had two top five finishes, placing 3rd in the 100 Butterfly (1:12.12) and fifth in the 50 Freestyle (28.82). The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Pickerell, Liberty Hampton, Gracy Hubbard, and Adyson Wiens finished in 5th.

The team has some much needed rest ahead before competing in Salina Friday, April 25.


BOYS GOLF

The Varsity Boys Golf team had an invitational Thursday, April 17 at the Newton Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

The Newton Invitational featured 21 total schools in 4A, 5A, and 6A in Kansas. The Bullpup squad finished 12th overall with an overall score of 372. Maize South won the meet with 322, followed by Bishop Carroll at 327 and Valley Center at 339.

Cole Cooper led the Bullpups with 90, tying for 36th overall out of 121 golfers. Kamerson Buckbe finished in 49th with 93, Teigan Younger placed 56th with 94. Lawson Ediger and Hudson Krehbiel tied for 60th each scoring 95. Zane Sporleder finished 72nd with 97 and Paxton Ingels rounded out the Bullpups in 76th with 98.

The event’s individual winner was Maddix Shook of Garden City, who shot a 74 (+2).

The JV Team will have the Derby Invitational Thursday April 24 and the Varsity squad will golf at Salina Municipal Course Friday, April 25.
