LAWRENCE, Kan. – Six McPherson High School Track & Field Athletes qualified for and participated in the KU Relays Saturday, April 19 at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.
Girls athletes Arihanna Koehn & Ellie Herrera and boys athletes Ethan Elder, Dayden Friesen, Tripp Pelzel, and Caleb Muehler took the two-and-a-half hour trip to Lawrence for the 102nd Annual KU Relays, which features hundreds of track athletes from high schools in states including Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa, and Illinois.
Herrera had a day to remember, entering the High Jump events as the only freshman participant and finishing in 6th place overall. Koehn participated in the 100M Hurdles and 300M Hurdles, but was unable to get past the opening round in both events as she faced 44 other athletes trying to find a spot in the finals.
The four boys participants ran in the 4x800M Relay at Rock Chalk Park. The team ran in the final of three heats, finishing 8th in the heat and 30th overall out of 78 other teams. Muehler individually ran in the 3200M Run, finishing in 13th place.
