Brodie McCuan scored on an 80-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, and he added three more touchdowns, as the Hutchinson Salthawks notched a 31-8 win on Friday at Maize South.
McCuan added a 1-yard run late in the second quarter, as Hutch led 16-0 at halftime
McCuan helped push the lead to 23-0 on a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Then, after a Maize South touchdown, McCuan returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for his final touchdown.
The Salthawks improved to 2-5 and moved up to 12th in the Class 5A West District standings. The Salthawks remain mathematically alive to finish eighth, which would earn a first-round home playoff game. They’ll have to at least win at Valley Center next week
