ANDALE, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain baseball team was able to get its doubleheader against Clearwater in before inclement weather on Thursday.
Andale/Garden Plain took the opener in five innings, 14-4, while Clearwater took the second game, 8-7.
Game 1: Andale/Garden Plain 14, Clearwater 4 / 5 innings
Clearwater jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Andale/Garden Plain responded with three. Nolan Pfannsenstiel had an RBI groundout, followed by an RB single by Easton Linnens, and Jared Flax gave Andale/Garden Plain the lead with an RBI single. Clearwater tied the game at 3 in the second before Andale/Garden Plain scored three more in the second, on an RBI triple by Austin Bugner, an RBI single by Noah Stanley, and an RBI double by Linnens.
Andale/Garden Plain tacked on three more in the third on three consecutive RBI singles by Bugner, Stanley, and Pfannenstiel. Clearwater scored its final run in the fourth, with Andale/Garden Plain wrapping up the win with five in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI double by Bugner, a 2-run double by Pfannenstiel, and RBI singles from Linnens and Flax.
Jamey Joplin got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and three strikeouts. Bugner and Stanley combined to go 6-for-6 with five RBIs in the first two spots in the batting order.
Game 2: Clearwater 8, Andale/Garden Plain 7
Clearwater jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before Andale/Garden Plain responded with four. Linnens gave Andale/Garden Plain a 2-1 lead with a 2-run single, followed by an RBI triple from Flax and an RBI single by Cruz Kaiser. Clearwater cut the deficit to 4-3 in the second and scored three in the fourth to take a 6-4 advantage. Andale/Garden Plain erased the deficit in a hurry with back-to-back RBI doubles by Caden Fowler and Brody Winter.
Clearwater regained the lead in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh. Andale/Garden Plain scored on an error in the seventh, but was unable to force extra innings.
Kaiser was credited with the loss in relief, giving up one run on one hit in the sixth inning. Linnens went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
