Hobart-Detter Field was the site of the Hutchinson triangular featuring the Salthawks, Haven, and Andale/Garden Plain on Friday.
Andale/Garden Plain went 2-0 in triangular, defeating Haven, 6-0, and Hutchinson, 14-10. The Salthawks defeated Haven for their lone win of the triangular, 4-1.
Andale/Garden Plain 6, Haven 0
Behind a complete game two-hitter by Jamey Joplin, Andale/Garden Plain scored half of its runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Pfannenstiel and a 2-run double by Caden Fowler. Fowler drove in his third with an RBI groundout in the third. Fowler drove in his fourth on an RBI triple in the fifth, and Jared Flax’s RBI groundout capped off the scoring. Joplin struck out four on the mound, improving to 5-0 in starts this season. Fowler went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Brogan Wray and Jaxson Wilder combined for the two hits for Haven. Welden Stanley took the loss on the mound for the Wildcats, going five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and three strikeouts.
Andale/Garden Plain 14, Hutchinson 10
Andale/Garden Plain wasted no time against the Salthawks, sending 12 men to the plate in the top of first by scoring six runs. The first three runs came on a fielder’s choice and two errors. Flax made it 4-0 with an RBI single and a 2-run single by Easton Rieger. Hutchinson scored one in the inning on an RBI single by Landon Haugsness. Cruz Kaiser’s RBI single in the second extended the lead to 7-1. The Salthawks responded with four to make it 7-5 on a 3-run double by JuJu Lyons and an RBI double by Merrick Brotzman. Flax scored on an error to extend the lead to 8-5 in the fourth. Brotzman made it 8-6 in the fourth with an RBI single. Flax extended the lead to 9-6 with an RBI double in the fifth. Andale/Garden Plain scored its final five runs in the sixth, an inside-the-park home run by Austin Buger, an RBI single by Easton Linnens, a 2-run triple by Greyson Winter, and a sacrifice fly from Fowler. Hutchinson had no signs of giving up, scoring two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings. Gabe Valadez drew a bases-loaded walk, and Easton Henion was hit by a pitch that forced a run in in the sixth. In the seventh, Brotzman drove in a pair on a single.
Blake Winter earned the win for Andale/Garden Plain, going three innings allowing one run on two hits and three strikeouts. Linnens went 3-for-5 at the plate. Payne Young went five innings in relief, allowing seven runs on nine hits, and had a strikeout for the Salthawks. Brotzman went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs.
Hutchinson 4, Haven 1
The Salthawks took the lead in the first on an RBI groundout by Brotzman. Lyons drove in a run on an RBI groundout in the third. In the fifth, Lyons had a triple and then scored on an error to make it 3-0. Young made it 4-0 in the sixth on an RBI double. Haven avoided the shutout with an RBI groundout by Korbin Graham in the seventh. Kam Wilson earned the win in relief for the Salthawks, going 5 ⅓ innings, allowing one run on five hits and five strikeouts while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Graham went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. Wyatt Bontrager went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Andale/Garden Plain (11-9) hosts Buhler at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Andale High School Sports Complex.
