Andale/Garden Plain Baseball Battles; Swept by Top-Ranked Mulvane

MULVANE, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain baseball team showed bright spots in its doubleheader against Mulvane on Monday at the Mulvane Sports Complex.

Andale/Garden Plain was right there with the top-ranked team in Class 4A in game one, but fell 9-8. After a close first two innings of game two, Mulvane cruised the rest of the way for a 12-2 victory.

In game one, Andale/Garden Plain jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Easton Linnens and Greyson Winter and an RBI double by Nolan Pfannenstiel. Mulvane responded with three in the home half of the first. Andale/Garden Plain regained the lead in the second on an RBI single by Cruz Kaiser, which was followed by a solo home run by Pfannenstiel in the third. The Wildcats scored three in the third for a 6-5 advantage. Andale/Garden Plain tied the game in the fourth by scoring on an error. Mulvane tacked on two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 9-6 advantage. Winter had a 2-run single to make it 9-8 in the sixth, but Mulvane got four consecutive strikeouts to end the rally. 

Pfannenstiel went 2-for-2 at the plate. 

In game two, Mulvane led 1-0 through one before Winter tied in the second with an RBI single. Mulvane tacked on three in the second for a 4-1 lead. Andale/Garden Plain got one back in the third on a fielder’s choice by Linnens. After that, the Wildcats tacked on three in the third and five in the fourth for the run-rule victory. 

Winter went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. 

Andale/Garden Plain (6-6) travels to Wichita Collegiate for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday.
