At a special meeting Tuesday the McPherson City Commission adopted a resolution of intent to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate.

The city’s proposed 2027 budget calls for a property tax levy of 53.826 mills, which would be 2.666 mills above the levy that would generate the same amount of property tax revenue as received for this year. That levy would be about the same as for the 2026 budget.

Finance Director Richard Miller outlined priorities in the budget for next year.

This resolution sets public hearings September 1st at 9 AM at the Municipal Center on exceeding RNR and for the budget itself. The Commission could still make reductions in the levy, but it can’t go any higher than that stated in the resolution.

Cities, counties, school districts and other taxing entities have to notify their county clerk’s office no later than July 20th, one day prior to the City Commission’s next regular meeting which necessitated the special meeting
