Volleyball Rankings: Area Teams Dot the Rankings; Ellinwood Still Tops 2A

The Ellinwood High School volleyball, 29-0 with a 76-match winning streak, maintained its hold on the No. 1 spot in the latest Kansas Volleyball Association rankings (Week 5) released on Wednesday.

Ellinwood picked up victories 28 and 29 against Chase (25-4, 25-5) and Macksville (25-7, 25-13) Tuesday night at the Macksville High School gymnasium. Macksville defeated Chase 25-12, 25-11.

Ellinwood head volleyball coach Greg Maxwell now holds a career record of 308-49. He recorded his 300th career coaching victory during the Lyons Tournament.

Ellinwood senior Alyvia Batchman reached 1,500 career assists at the Lyons Tournament.

Other schools of interest ranked in Class 2A are Moundridge, fourth; Inman, fifth, Thomas More Prep-Marian, sixth; and Conway Springs, ninth.

In Class 6A, Maize is ranked eighth and Garden City 10th.

In Class 5A, Maize South is ranked third, Bishop Carroll fourth, Great Bend sixth and Andover seventh. Great Bend coach Tina Johnson just passed the 700-win mark.

In Class 4A, Andale is ranked fourth, McPherson seventh, Towanda-Circle eighth and Wellington ninth.

In Class 3A. Hesston is ranked third, Cheney fifth, Halstead seventh and Hoisington eighth.

In Class 1A Division I, Goessel is ranked third and Little River fourth.

In Class 1A Division II, Argonia is third and Hutchinson Central Christian is eighth.

In addition to Ellinwood in Class 2A, other No. 1 teams are Mill Valley, Class 6A; St. Thomas Aquinas, Class 5A; Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege, Class 4A; Beloit, Class 3A; Centralia, Class 1A SivisionI; and Hanover, Class 1A Division II.

No. 2-ranked teams are Blue Valley West, Class 6A; Lenexa-St. James Academy, Class 5A; Topeka Hayden, Class 4A; Riley County, Class 3A; Jefferson County North, Class 2A; Linn, Class 1A Division I; and Ingalls, Class 1A Division II.
