Pretty Prairie Girls Edge Marion for Halstead Invitational Cross Country Title

The Pretty Prairie High School varsity girls cross country team placed three runners in the top 10, five in the top 20 and seven in the top 31 to win the team title with 49 points at the Halstead Invitational Monday.

Pretty Prairie’s Lauren Detter, Amity White and Halli Yoder placed third, fourth and seventh with times of 20 minutes, 50.02 seconds, 21:06.71 and 22:41.39. Detter and Yoder are juniors and White is a senior.

Juniors Ava Goering and Brennan Schrag placed 17th and 18th with times of 24:23.93 and 24:31.03.

Rounding out the Bulldogs’ scoring were freshmen Lily Casey and Adyn Anderson, who placed 30th and 31st with times of 27:57.64 and 28:30.52.

Marion placed second as a team with 59 points, led by Dylan Karus, who captured first-place individual honors with a time of 19:29.23.

The Wichita Defenders placed third as a team with 65 points, led by a second-place individual effort by Kaylee Finley at 19:51.03 and a sixth-place showing by Shaylee Taylor at 22:15.3.

Smoky Valley placed fourth in the team standings with 73 points, led by senior Emma Chaput and sophomore Ella Chaput, who placed eighth and ninth with times of 23:03.37 and 23:17.49.

Smoky Valley’s Grace Flax placed 12th, 23:37.74; Kennedy Hecker, 16th, 24:20.04; and Delilah Roraback, 28th, 27:01.84.

Goddard placed fifth with 102 points, led by sophomore Autumn Weaver in 15th place at 24:14.26.

Classical School of Wichita was sixth in the team standings with 119 points, led by junior Anna Dernian’s fifth-place individual effort at 21:59.55.

There were 19 entries in the junior varsity girls 5K race. Circle runners placed in top three: Annalise Pearson (22:47.89), Haeley Lamb (23:19.08) and Willow Oliver (23:26.78).

Haven’s Eden Bennett placed 14th, 31:13.26; and Halstead’s Madelynn Denno was 17th, 32:50.1.

Hutchinson Trinity Catholic Junior High was the only to school to enter runners in the seventh grade girls 1-mile race at the Halstead Invitational.

The Celtics took first through fifth to score 15 points.

Cara Long placed first, 7:11.98; Amelia Lau, second, 7:13.41; Lucia Godina, third, 7:46.24; Yanira Ramirez, fourth, 8:02.44; and Emily Armour, fifth, 8:17.19.
