MARION, Kan. – In their first season of existence, the Trinity Catholic girls golf team won the Heart of America League meet on Tuesday.
It was a head-to-head competition between the Celtics and Marion. The morning session featured a two-person scramble and the afternoon was a singles format pitting players one-on-one.
Trinity Catholic won all of the morning scramble matches to take a 3-0 lead in the series. Clara Shank and Allie Moodie defeated Vyolett Dawson and Ava Box, Gentri Christiansen and Mellany Tapia beat Aubrey Whitman and Cali Hendricks and Ella Mead and Madalynn Williford won over Bea Madwick and Sophia Baxa.
Marion actually had a 4-2 advantage in the singles matches, but Trinity Catholic still edged them out 5-4 overall. Shank won over Dawson and Mead beat Reagan Cooper for the wins for Trinity Catholic. Marion wins came from Sybil Bowman over Moody, Hazel Bowman over Christiansen, Carlynn Johnson beat Tapia ad Whitman won over Rylee Williford.
The meet was the final one of the regular season for both Trinity Catholic and Marion. Both teams will now be headed off to the 3-1A Sub-State meet at Cheney on Monday, October 12.
