Lyons found themselves down early after Ellinwood returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to grab the early lead. But the Lions used a stellar defense the rest of the way to carry them to a 15-6 win on Friday.
Detrell Stanley caught a pass in the left flat and weaved his way to the end zone on a 35-yard touchdown run and with the PAT by Aaron Villasenor, Lyons was ahead 7-6.
With under a minute left in the half, Lyons forced a safety when the snap on a punt attempt sailed out of the end zone. Lyons led 9-6 as the half ended.
The Lions came out inspired in the second half, taking the ball 60 yards in four plays with Xander Young getting the touchdown on a 10–yard run. The game from that point forward turned into a defensive battle as neither team was able to score. With the win, Lyons advances to 3-1 on the season and will open district next week in their Homecoming game against Larned.
