Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce McPherson High School junior Hunter Schroeder, as this week’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Schroeder collected nine saves on Friday, and he kept a clean sheet in helping lead McPherson to a 3-0 win over Great Bend. Schroeder made a sprawling save early in the second half, when the score was 1-0, saving what appeared to be a sure goal. Then, later with the score 3-0, Schroeder preserved the shutout by saving a penalty kick.
The season – Schroeder’s shutout came in his varsity debut. A junior, Schroeder is an experienced goalkeeper and a routine participant in Keeper Wars. He also plays baseball for the Bullpups. While Friday was his varsity debut, coach Chris Adrian praised Schroeder’s offseason work. “His success Friday was no accident. It was earned,” Adrian said.
