HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Residents are invited to get an inside look at the services that keep Hutchinson running during the Public Works & Utilities Open House on Wednesday, August 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Public Works & Utilities Facility, 1500 S Plum St.

The free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity for community members to meet the employees behind many of the City’s essential services and learn how Public Works & Utilities supports the daily life of Hutchinson.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in guided facility tours, explore the wastewater laboratory, experience a Touch-a-Truck display featuring Public Works equipment, and visit with staff from across the department. Interactive displays and demonstrations will highlight the work involved in maintaining the City’s streets, water distribution system, wastewater collection and treatment, traffic operations, engineering, fleet services, and other critical infrastructure.

This open house is an opportunity to show our community how these systems operate, introduce the dedicated employees who keep them running, and help residents better understand the work that goes into maintaining Hutchinson.

Whether you’re interested in learning how drinking water reaches your home, what happens after water goes down the drain, or simply want to see the equipment that maintains the City’s infrastructure, the open house is designed to provide an engaging experience for all ages.
