A consultant’s 80-page report that focuses on the Salina Animal Shelter recommends an outside provider take over the facility that has come under scrutiny over the past year.
The assessment documented failures not only in leadership — but in sanitation, disinfection, and biosecurity practices that could put animals and employees at risk.
For a reset to occur, the report calls for a deep cleaning of the entire facility, every room and cage, vent and floors.
The consultant believes that new protocols put in place will help guide the new management chosen, to a successful and safe operation. City leaders have already requested proposals from outside organization to run the animal shelter.
Animal Shelter Services LLC was hired by the City of Salina back in May to give the commission an unbiased overview of the operation.
